The sequel to 47 Meters Down (2017), this survival horror film is directed by Johannes Roberts and produced by James Harris, Mark Lane and Robert Jones. The plot follows a group of four teenage girls namely, Mia (Sophie Nélisse), Sasha (Corrine Foxx), Alexa (Brianne Tju) and Nicole (Sistine Stallone), who scuba dive into the sunken Mayan city. They find themselves in a watery hell as their adventure turns into horror as they realize that they are not alone in the waters. The caves are a hunting ground for the Great White Sharks and with declining air supply, the girls look for a way out of the eerie tunnels.
The movie was released on August 16th 2019, overseas and is now being released in India on the 30th of August. As of August 27, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged grossed $16.2 million in the United States and Canada and $1.9 million in other territories on day 1 and day 2 combined, the worldwide gross total being $18.1 million. With a 50% Rotten Tomatoes rating, this film has received mixed reviews from viewers as well as the critics. An IMDb score of 5.2/10 and the Metacritic average score of 44/100 does justice to the slow pace of the movie.
The movie does not do justice to the thriller of its predecessor and has only a few moments of thrill that the audience is looking for in a shark peril film. Although, fanatics of such movies still enjoyed the struggles of the teenage group in order to find their way out of underwater hell.
