Directed by Deva Katta, Prassthanam is an Indian hindi-language political action film, produced by Maanyata Dutt under her own banner of Sanjay S Dutt Productions. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Manisha Koirala, Chunky Pandey, Ali Fazal, Satyajeet Dubey and Amyra Dastur. Prassthanam is the remake of 2010 Telugu film with the same name, although the movie had troubles in the beginning with a legal notice being sent to the producers alleging that they did not have remake rights but eventually everything died down and the movie was released on 20th September 2019.
The story follows Baldev Pratap Singh (Sanjay Dutt), a rural politician, marries a widow with kids and gains a respectable position and trust of his step son in political matters, thus upsetting his own son. While his stepson idolizes Baldev, his own son is consumed with jealousy and wants to destroy everything they have built. This political drama deals with more than just the family, it addresses the crucial debate of moral- between right and wrong.
Being released alongside Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer Salmaan starrer, the Zoya Factor, this movie is a huge comeback for Sanjay Dutt after being released from jail. The music for the film is composed by Ankit Tiwari, Farhad Samji and Vikram Montrose while the lyrics are written by Farhad Samji, Atique Allahabadi, Shekhar Astitwa, Yash Eshawari and Anurag Bhomia. The tracks are catching up on chartbusters like ‘Dil Dariya’, ‘Haji Ali’, ‘Charo Khane Chit’ and ‘Dil Bevda’. With an IMDb rating of 7/10 and Rotten Tomatoes score of 62%, Prassthanam has a box office collection of Rs. 2 crores on day 1 of its release.
